Fence Part II

October 26, 2026

After taking a brief hiatus, the fence project continues! I wasn’t satisfied with how I was bonding the steel to the concrete, and asked a dear friend (an architect) how he’d proceed. He told me he’d recommend using structural epoxy to set in standard threaded rod; the reason being- It wouldn’t exert stress on the edges of the concrete. Brilliant.

I started by aligning the baseplate on the poured concrete, and then added the threaded rod, which was then submerged into epoxy. I let them cure overnight, and holy cow are they strong.

I then reassembled the steel portion of the fence, and started adding my uprights, which are just 2x4’s, ripped to 70mm, and then each side rounded over with a 3/4 round over on the routing table. Each board is also planed. I was fortunate enough to purchase some oil based stain at Roosters paint supply for next to nothing– I think it’s turned out nice so far, although far from perfect!

Next up: Hardware and finishing touches :-)
